Save Adam's Bridge

Rama
the very name drives millions of people to ecstasy. Rama,
the very word changed a bandit, Ratnakar into a great poet Valmiki and
made him the first poet of the world with his legendary Ramayan. Learned
men said mere chanting the name Rama gives Moksha (liberation) than
learning a truckload of philosophies. Lord Rama, a God incarnate, ruled
India several thousand years ago. He set an example of an ideal king and
an ideal man. Lord Rama rules the hearts of tens of millions of people
even after many millenniums. His name, any thing associated with him is
revered and considered sacred.

Ram
Sethu or Rama’s bridge is believed to be constructed by
Vanarasena of Lord Rama between India and Sri Lanka at Dhanushkoti, the
southern most tip of India. Lord Rama crossed the bridge and waged a war
on Ravana, King of Lanka. He killed Ravana, saved Sitadevi, and saved
Lanka from his cruel rule. Thus, the bridge became sacred for Hindus for
the last several millenniums.

There are numerous literary evidences available in both Sanskrit and
Tamil, indicating the existence of the Rama’s bridge. The
bridge was built on shallow waters for the army to cross over to Lanka.

Now the Indian government is planning to demolish Ram Sethu for the
construction of Sethu Samudram project. The project has it’s
own merits like shortening the navigational distance between east and west
costs of the country. But at what cost? The government regularly changes
the alignments of roads, designs of the projects just to safeguard little
known places of worship. However, despite the opposition from various
groups, it is bent up on going ahead with the project hurting the
sentiments of millions of people. Instead of preserving this national
heritage, the government is acting to destroy it. It’s not a
matter of advantages vs disadvantages of the project but a matter of
plundering vs preserving a sacred place standing for thousands of years.
Even Ravana would not have done this to Rama’s bridge. Our
governments are putting Talibans to shame with their ultra-Taliban acts.

It is important for every Indian to rise up and speak against this,
otherwise the Ram Sethu would be lost forever, for which the future
generations would never forgive us. There are a few groups who are
fighting against the proposed project like Save
Ramsethu campaign
and Dr.
S.Kalyanaraman
.
You can extend your support to them to help preserving
Rama's bridge.
